Edward Avedisian was best known in the 1960s for his brightly-colored abstract paintings. These lush, broadly gestural works were seen as occupying several aesthetic spheres, including the Color Field, Abstract Expressionism, Pop and Op Art movements. In later years Avedisian switched to a more representational motif, but his fresh approach to color and surface remained throughout.
